EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Kellye Belcher carded a 1-over par total of 145 (74-71) and is tied for second after the first day of the Lady Northern Invitational. As a team, the Indiana women's golf team stands in seventh place with a 36-hole total of 613 (310-303).

"Overall I'm pretty pleased with our performance," head coach Clint Wallman said. "Kellye played great - she hit a lot of fairways and greens, and you need to be very strong tee to green in order to be competitive on this golf course. If we stay with our game plan, we can move up the leaderboard tomorrow."

Host Michigan State leads the tournament at 597 (298-299). They are followed by Northwestern in second place with a total of 599 (300-299). Individually, Tara Delaney of Kent State sits atop the leaderboard after carding a 2-under par 142 (72-70) for the first 36-holes.

Following Belcher in the IU lineup is fellow freshman Laura Nochta, who is tied for 28th place with a total of 154 (78-76). Rounding out the newcomers for the Hoosiers is Anita Gahir, who shares 35th after firing a 156 (80-76). Junior Elaine Harris is tied for 43rd with a total of 158 (78-80).

Also competing for the Hoosiers is sophomore Amber Lindgren, who is 74th after a first-day 171 (86-85) and senior Kendal Hake. Hake is tied for 75th with a total of 172 (83-89).

The Hoosiers will close out the tournament at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 17 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
