Sophomore Billy Weaver has proven to be a strong player off the bench for Indiana, seeing minutes against SMU earlier this year. He sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Europe so I could experience their soccer culture.
Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
I've learned about time management, being able to study at a certain time to get good grades.
What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
I like a lot of sports, particularly basketball and football. I like my Detroit teams, the Pistons and the Lions.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
Probably my dad, because he's always been there for me. He has always tried to give me advice and help me out.
My favorite thing about Bloomington is:
The way that it's more of a college town than a big city. Where I live, it's pretty much just students. There's always something to do on campus, or different types of people to meet.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up in Rochester Hills, my neighborhood had so many kids in it. We always played pickup hockey, basketball or soccer. It was a fun time.
What is your favorite soccer memory?
When I signed my national letter of intent to come to Indiana. That was a good day. I haven't regretted that decision for a minute.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
I admire Doug Reisinger because even though he doesn't get a lot of playing time, he's always the hardest working player out on the field.
What do you like best about Coach Freitag?
No matter what, on or off the field, he's there for you if you need him. I've had some tough times, and he's always been there for me.
Why did you start playing soccer?
In my old neighborhood, my best friend was playing soccer and I was playing hockey. I went to his practice one day and played well. I just loved soccer and I picked it up and have played ever since then. He actually came to my hockey practice, and we ended up switching sports. I ended up being serious with soccer, and he ended up being serious with hockey.
