Loukas, Cardinell Advance to World Championship Selection Camp II

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior Christina Loukas and 2005 graduate Cassandra Cardinell have advanced to the World Championship Selection Camp II, USA Diving announced.
Loukas was selected to participate in the one-meter and three-meter, while Cardinell was chosen for the 10-meter platform. The two will also team up to compete in the synchronized platform.
The camp will take place Jan. 21-25 in Indianapolis. Loukas and Cardinell, as well as Hoosier seniors Heather Chapman and Lindsay Weigle, participated in Selection Camp I from Dec. 17-21.
In determining who would proceed to the second camp, USA Diving weighed several factors at the first camp, including consistency, average scores, projected scores and degree of difficulty.
"We're working diligently to look better than we did in the first camp," Indiana diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "We've got a good shot. Both of them are right there with a number of other women, so it's really going to come down to who's consistent and who steps up and does it when it counts. We're training three times a day right now, so hopefully that will help."
Loukas and Cardinell will be vying for spots at the FINA World Championships, which will take place in Melbourne, Australia, from March 18-25.
The 13th-ranked Hoosiers (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) return to action on Jan. 12-13, when they will face Illinois, Michigan and Notre Dame in Ann Arbor, Mich.
