Hoosier Duo Shines at World Championship Selection Camp

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Indiana junior Christina Loukas and 2005 IU graduate Cassandra Cardinell posted a solid showing at the World Championship Selection Camp II, finishing in the top two on all three lists they performed on Sunday, Jan. 21.
Loukas and Cardinell competed in the synchronized 10-meter platform, finishing second to Haley Ishimatsu and Mary Beth Dunnichay on the first two lists. Loukas and Cardinell posted a score of 294.24 on the first list, while Ishimatsu and Dunnichay turned in a score of 297.76. Ishimatsu and Dunnichay took the second list with a score of 304.20, while Loukas and Cardinell had 285.90.
The Hoosier duo bounced back with a win on the third list, combining for a score of 304.02. Ishimatsu and Dunnichay were second with a 293.70 effort.
"I felt like we were pretty aggressive on the first list," Indiana diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "On the second one, we were a little tentative, and at this level you can't hold back. You have to get out there and not worry about missing a dive. It was nice to see them come back and finish strong on the third list. I think they'll do really well on the fourth list later in the week."
The camp continues on Monday, Jan. 22, when Loukas will compete on the three-meter. Cardinell is back in action on Jan. 23, when she will perform two lists from the 10-meter. Loukas and Cardinell will also complete one more list in the synchro platform that day.
The FINA World Championships will take place in Melbourne, Australia, from March 18-25.
