Women's Swimming and Diving Falls 150-93 at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Indiana University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2007-08 season with a 150-93 loss at Missouri in a dual meet in Columbia, Mo. Friday night.
The Hoosiers were victorious in two individual events.
"We got beat by a better team tonight," said head coach Ray Looze. "This is a good wake up call, and better for it to happen early in the season rather than later."
Brittany Barwegen was one of two IU winners on the day, posting a time of 2:00.24 in the 200-yard butterfly. Teammate Christie Fuchs was second (2:03.83).
Sarah Stockwell was victorious in the 200-yard breastroke with a time of 2:18.69. Amilee Smith was fourth (2:20.53), followed by Kristy Winck (2:29.92).
The team of Ashley Jones, Stockwell, Barwegen and Brittany Epperson took second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:49.85. Freshman Amanda Smith made a splash in her IU debut with a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle (1:50.90) and 500-yard free (4:57.64).
Allison Kay and Jones went 2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley with Kay touching the wall in 2:05.05, followed by Jones at 2:06.54.
In the diving well, Brittney Feldman took top honors in the one-meter event with a score of 279.15. Amy Korthauer was fifth (210.98) and Heidi Mahnken seventh (153.45).
The Hoosiers are back in action on Friday, Oct. 26 as they travel to Northwestern for a key Big Ten dual meet.
