Indiana Swimming Signs Three for 2008 Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Nikki White (Austin, Texas), Margaux Farrell (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Brittany Strumbel (North Royalton, Ohio) have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their swimming careers at Indiana University, head coach Ray Looze announced today.
White hails from Bowie High School in Austin, Texas and does her club swimming with Longhorn Aquatics. This past summer she posted Olympic Trials cut times in the 400 free, 800 free and 1500 free. At the 2007 USA Swimming National Championships, White placed fifth in the 1500 free (16:39.93), seventh in the 800 free (8:43.77) and 13th in the 400 free (4:16.08). She holds the Texas state record in the 500 freestyle.
"Nikki is one of the top middle distance and distance swimmers in the country," Looze said. "She will have an immediate impact at the Big Ten and NCAA levels."
Farrell, out of Amity Regional High School was crowned Connecticut state champion in the 100 free (51.92) and 200 free (1:54.74) earlier this month. Farrell set Class LL records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle at last year's meet, set a new record in the 100 with a time of 51.72. She won the 50 freestyle in 23.99, slightly off the record of 23.94 she set last year. In 2006 she was the state "Open" champion in the 50 free (23.52) and 100 free (50.95) and was the class LL champion in both events in record-setting time. Farrell earned SCC. All-Conference honors in the 100 free, 200 free and 200 medley relay. She holds the Amity records in the 50, 100 (50.43), 200 (1:51.11) and 500-yard free, as well as the 100 back (57.06).
Farrell also has dual citizenship with France and is aiming for a spot on the French Nation Team for the 2012 Olympics. The three-time high school All-American is ranked first in the 50 free, second in the 100 free and fourth in the 200 free, 100 back and 200 back in her age group in France.
"Margaux will bring outstanding sprint and middle distance freestyle range to our team, compete on all relays, and will continue to develop her backstroke," Looze said.
Strumbel swims with the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins and competed at the 2007 Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100 free, 400 free, 800 free and 200 individual medley. She placed 10th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.20, an Olympic Trial cut and a Lake Erie 15-16 and Open record. She helped lead the Hawken School to its eighth consecutive Ohio state championship last season with an individual title in the 200 free. In addition, Strumbel was voted the outstanding performer in Division II swimming. Overall she is a nine-time state champion (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and relays) and an 11-time All-American.
"Brittany is a great middle distance freestyler and recently qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 IM," Looze said. "She is extremely versatile."
