BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University senior Ben Hesen is the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hesen is coming off a productive outing last weekend against No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Michigan where he recorded seven first-place finishes and tallied five NCAA "B" cut times. In the double dual meet with the Longhorns and Wolverines, Hesen swept the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes in times of 47.75 and 1:44.73, respectively, notching NCAA "B" standards in both.
In the same meet, he aided the Hoosier 200 medley relay team to a winning and NCAA "B" time of 1:28.37. He also took third in the 100 butterfly, meeting the NCAA "B" threshold with a time of 47.77.
In a unique double distance event with Texas and Michigan, Hesen finished first in all four backstroke events, recording another NCAA "B" time of 48.51 in the 100 back.
It is the second-consecutive week an IU swimmer has earned the award as Todd Patrick was honored by the league last week.
Indiana is back in action Nov. 15-17 as it plays host to the Hoosierland Open at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
