BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Hoosiers compete on the road for the first time when they travel to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. The Tyson Center is also the site of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
SANTA CLAUSING
Senior Stacey Clausing earned a provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter dash at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 26. She beat out more than 40 other competitors to win the event.
Clausing won the 200-meter dash at the Indiana Open on Jan. 6, with a time of 24.02. The time ranks third on the all-time Hoosiers record list. Her time of 7.65 in the 60-meter dash at the Open also leads the team.
The St. Mary's, Ohio native also runs a leg of the 4x400-meter relay, which turned in a season-best time of 3:45.82 at the Indiana Relays on Feb. 3.
COURTIN' JOHNSON
Senior Courtney Johnson ran a time of 8.42 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Indiana Relays on Feb. 3 in the semifinal round. The time is an NCAA provisional qualifying time, and ranks fifth all-time at Indiana.
BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER `H'
Senior Lindsay Hattendorf recorded a provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run at the Indiana Relays on Feb. 3, clocking in at 9:32.32.
VAULTERS PARADISE
Freshmen Vera Neuenswander and Laura Williams have both emerged as solid contenders in the pole vault for the Hoosiers this season. Neuenswander cleared 3.77 meters at the Indiana Relays on Feb. 2, a mark which ranks third on the all-time list at Indiana. Williams cleared 3.55 meters at the Pole Vault Summit on Jan. 20, which ranks fifth in the Hoosier record books.
SEEING LAUER
Sophomore Caitlin Lauer holds Indiana's top times in the 600-meters and 800-meters. Her time of 1:32.86 at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 27 ranks third all-time at Indiana. She ran a time of 2:13.90 in the 800 meters at the Indiana Team Classic on Jan. 20.
SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON
Junior Zakiya Robinson and sophomore Wendi Robinson (no relation) have each posted solid performances for Indiana in recent meets.
Zakiya had a personal best 5.82 meters in the long jump at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 27. She has also been a strong competitor in the 60-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay for Indiana.
Wendi holds Indiana's top time in the mile run this year, running a 4:54.16 at the Indiana Team Classic on Jan. 20.
THE FUTURE IS NOW
A number of freshmen are leading the Hoosiers in their respective events. In the weight throw, Faith Sherrill has a team-best throw of 16.09, which she did at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 26.
Jackie Coleman's season-high in the triple jump is 11.43 meters. Ashley Rhodes cleared 1.73 meters in the high jump at the Indiana Open II on Jan. 13.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
Senior Lorian Price was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9 after winning the 60-meter hurdles (8.67) and long jump (5.67 meters), and finishing third in the 200-meters (25.65) at the Indiana Open on Jan. 6. It was her first career weekly honor. Price is ranked in the top-five all-time at Indiana in both the long jump and 60-meter hurdles.
BIG TEN CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
During the 2006-07 season, the Big Ten will celebrate the conference's 25th Anniversary of Women's Championships.
From Aug. 15, 2006, to July 2007, the conference will be sharing some of the many stories of student-athletes, teams, coaches and administrators who have made the past 25 years a success and have set the stage for "the story to continue."
