As Indiana's rowing team takes part in its annual Spring Break training trip in Clemson, S.C., select members of the team will be checking in with IUHOOSIERS.com to relay how the trip is going. The team will train in Clemson from March 10-16, and will race Clemson, Marist and Purdue on Saturday, March 17. Wednesday's journal entry comes courtesy of senior Rozzie McHenry.
It was another beautiful, warm, sunny, morning in Clemson, S.C. The alarm clock went off in mine and Jenn Maslanka's room at 7:35 a.m. sharp. Sore and hungry, we made our way down to the lobby for a quick bite to eat and off to the bus we went for practice. We got to the lake and met with Coach Peterson to find out what we were going to be working on for practice. Our main focus for practice was quick catches and clean finishes, which we have been working on all week!
Today was also a big day because we were doing our first race pieces of the year on the water. Each varsity boat and novice boat was doing 1,500-meter pieces down the race course. These pieces were extremely beneficial for us and our preparation for Saturday's races against Clemson, Purdue, and Marist. Coach Peterson said that we still have a lot of work to do, but each day is a step closer to the ultimate goal of reaching NCAAs for our team.
Everyone is working hard every practice and it is very evident each day we sit to watch film from practice. This year our team has come together to tackle one of many goals. That goal is to take Indiana Rowing to heights that it has never gone before. We have all worked so hard in winter training. Now, we are ready to get on the starting line and get to the finish line as fast as we can!
Go Hoosiers!!!
