Berry Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Feb. 24, freshman women's swimmer Emma Berry earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"On behalf the staff and her teammates, we want to congratulate Emma for this honor," Indiana head coach Ray Looze said. "Working hard in the classroom is always the most important thing you can do as a student-athlete, and it's always a great pleasure to see somebody honored with that kind of work ethic behind the scenes."
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Berry has acclimated herself well to life as a student-athlete. Most recently, she finished eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2007 Big Ten Championships, as well as taking 15th in the 200-yard freestyle at the event.
According to academic adviser Dustin Swanson, "Emma is a model student-athlete because she has found a balance between her academic, athletic and social life. She seeks out challenges and then conquers them through preparation, execution and follow-up."
