Loukas Second, Feldman Fifth on One-Meter at Spring Nationals

BOYDS, Md. - Indiana junior Christina Loukas finished second on the one-meter and freshman Brittney Feldman took fifth at the Speedo USA Diving Spring Nationals at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center on Wednesday, April 18.
Loukas turned in a score of 280.45 to finish runner-up to Mary Yarrison, who posted 287.10 points. Each of Loukas' five dives in the finals was in the top six in the round, with three of them in the top two. The Riverwoods, Ill., native's best dive was her last, as her score of 62.40 for her reverse one-and-a-half somersault one-and-a-half twist free led the round. Loukas' dives took second in both the second and fourth rounds.
Loukas advanced to the finals after winning the semifinal round with a score of 259.45. Her first two dives in the semis led their respective rounds, while her third dive was second and her fifth dive was third. All five of Loukas' dives in the semifinals were in the top 10 in their rounds.
Feldman, who advanced to the semifinals by winning the preliminaries on Monday, April 16, took third in the semis with a score of 247.05. Feldman's best score in the semis was for her forward two-and-a-half somersault pike, which garnered 58.50 points to lead the round.
The Indianapolis native turned in a steady showing in the finals, finishing in the top eight in each round. Feldman totaled 261.55 points for her fifth-place finish, with her forward two-and-a-half somersault pike earning her 54.60 points, good for fourth in the round.
The Spring Nationals continue on Thursday, April 19, with the women's 10-meter semis and 10-meter synchro semis and finals.
