BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - While most of the students enjoyed a day off from classes on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., the Indiana rowing team was hard at work helping others. Many of the team members spent the holiday at the Hoosier Hills Food Bank helping them prepare for the upcoming food drive.
Their task of folding paper bags that will be inserted in local newspapers might seen somewhat menial, but it will go a long way in helping the upcoming food drive to be a success.
"It was fun seeing the whole team file into the food bank to volunteer on our day off," senior co-captain Ashley Johnson said. "With everyone helping it went really fast."

"I really enjoyed the Angel Tree," Johnson said. "I know we all had a lot of fun shopping for toys for the kids that we sponsored."
Through all of the hours that the team has volunteered, they are quick to realize that the people they are helping are not the only ones benefiting from their hard work.
"Volunteering allows us, as student-athletes, to take a step back from our busy schedules and appreciate the work that is going on to benefit the Bloomington community," Emily Kasavana, a sophomore on the team said. "Doing these activities that are not related to athletics bring us closer as a team."
