Junior Sarah Stockwell is having a solid season for the Hoosiers. The Kentlake, Wash. native has posted NCAA provisional times in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay. Recently, iuhoosiers.com sat down with Stockwell to learn a little more about her.
What has been the most memorable moment (or moments) for you this
season?
The most memorable moment for this season was being able to go to
Puerto Rico. It was a great experience and allowed our team to truly
bond without having to worry about school. We did some of the best
training we have done all season, and we had fun doing it. We also go
to spend a lot of time away from the pool together.
What are your individual goals heading into the Big Ten Championships?
My individual goals for Big Tens are to go personal best times in all
my events. I would really like to place top 5 in them as well. I also
hope to help lead my team to another Big Ten title.
3. What makes swimming for Indiana so special?
Swimming for Indiana is so special because there is such a great
swimming history here. This is a team built from a great tradition of
excellence. To be able to be a part of this tradition is a great honor,
and i hope to be able to add to it.
How did you get involved in swimming?
I got involved in swimming when I was 6. My mom asked me if I wanted to
swim or play softball. I chose to swim, and I have been going it ever
since. Although I thought my mom meant swim lessons at the time, I am
still glad that I made the decision to swim.
Who has had the biggest influence on you and why?
My parents have been the biggest influence in my life. They have always
been there to support me in all my endeavors. It was really had for me
to chose to go here, because it meant being so far from home, and I
knew that it also meant that my parents wouldn't be able to see me
swim as much. But my parents knew that the program that Indiana offered
would help me become the best swimmer possible, and they supported me
in my decision to come here. I have been very lucky that they have been
able to come to all my championship meets.
What is your favorite event and why?
My favorite event is the 400 Medley Relay. I like it because it is more
than just you behind the blocks, it's you and 3 other girls coming
together to do something great. I love the energy and the feeling of
racing for more than just your self.
What are three words that you think your teammates would use to describe you?
Intense, serious and fun.
What do you hope to be doing five years from now?
In five years from now I hope to have my own place, and working as a
coach somewhere.
What is your major, and what has been your best academic experience at
> Indiana?
My major is Recreational Sports Management. My best academic experience
came my freshman year when I was invited to my first Alpha Beta dinner.
I made it my goal from that point on to maintain a 3.0 or above.
What will you remember most about your time as a member of the IU swim
> team?
I will remember all the great times, random moments, and fun memories I
made with my team. These girls are more than just teammate to me. They
have become my family away from home. I will remember all the fun and
exciting experiences we had together.
