ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After dropping its first match on Saturday, the Indiana water polo team rebounded to claim a 14-8 win over Colorado State in the evening. Brooke Zimmerman continued to lead the Hoosier offense, scoring five goals in the win.
The Hoosiers (1-1) took a 6-2 lead into halftime and did not give the Rams a chance to get back into the match by scoring six goals in the third period and matched Colorado State's two goals in the fourth period.
"It was a pretty good first day for us," head coach Barry King said. "I thought we responded very well and had a lot of people play very well for us."
Maggie Hannon continued her strong play as well for the Hoosiers, scoring three goals while Nicole Redder added two. Kate Dunn, Amy Moore, Kelly Palmberg and Kelsey Campbell all scored goals as well to round out the Hoosiers scoring attack.
For Zimmerman, it marked the third time in her career that she has scored five goals in a match with the last one coming against Hartwick on Feb. 18, 2007. The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada is now tied with Kristin Carpenter for fourth on the all-time goals scored list with 136.
It was also the third time in Hannon's career that she has scored a hat trick, the last coming against Slippery Rock on April 22, 2006.
Indiana will return to action at the Michigan Kick-Off on Sunday against Arizona State at 10:20 a.m. The Hoosiers will also take on No. 1 UCLA at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
