BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In this installment of "Meet the Hoosiers," it's a three-for-one deal as IUHoosiers.com takes a closer look at a trio of freshmen all coming to Bloomington from the same high school. Geno Capezio, Danny Monaco and Vince Ramos are each graduates of Glenbard North High in Illinois.
Capezio is a two-time all-state performer and three-time All-DuPage Valley Conference (DVC) team member. He finished in fifth place at the 2007 state championships, followed up by a fourth-place showing at last season's event. Capezio does not only excel on the mat, but also in the classroom; evidenced by his three academic all-conference selections. Geno is the son of John and Fran Capezio and has a sister Bianca. He intends to major in Exercise Science.
Monaco compiled a career record of 43-4 that included a run to the state title match during his runner-up season. He also garnered a fifth-place performance at the state tournament the year prior. Monaco earned All-DVC laurels all four seasons. He also lettered in football for the Panthers. Danny is the son of Ron and Janice Monaco and has two brothers, Ronnie and Jimmy. He intends to major in Business.
Ramos seized the 145-lbs. Illinois state title in 2008 after entering the top-five the previous three seasons (third in '07, third in '06, fifth in '05). Ramos won the DVC championship three times and was named to the All-DVC squad all four seasons. He tallied a career mark of 177-21 for the Panthers. Ramos also finished as the runner-up in the 2008 NHSCA Sr. Nationals. Vince is the son of Alfonzo and Debra Ramos with a sister, Brandi, and two brothers, Frank and Tony. He intends to major in Political Science.
The Hoosier trio knows how to win, leading Glenbard North High to four DVC team championships, three sectional titles and a runner-up finish in the final state standings during their time in Carol Stream, Ill.
