BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team returns home this weekend for a pair of Big Ten matches against Ohio State and Michigan. Indiana will take on the Buckeyes Friday night inside Assembly Hall as a part of Hoosier Hysteria, following by a Saturday night showdown with the Wolverines, ranked 22nd in the latest AVCA national polls, at University Gym. Fans are encouraged to join the team and staff in promoting breast cancer awareness by wearing pink to Saturday's match. Both contests are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST.
IUHoosiers.com offers free audio broadcasts of all matches. Jeremy Gray is set to call all the action this weekend. The pregame show will start approximately 10 minutes prior to match time.
HOOSIER HYSTERIA
Indiana Volleyball will once again kick off the Hoosier Hysteria festivities this year. The Ohio State Buckeyes will visit Assembly Hall in front of a huge crowd. At last season's Hoosier Hysteria volleyball match, a school-record 11,086 fans showed up to cheer on the volleyball squad take on Michigan State. That attendance number finished in the nation's top-five for largest volleyball crowds on the year.
ON A GOOD PACE
Indiana is eighteen matches into regular season and several all-time school records are in danger of being broken. If the following Hoosiers can maintain their current statistical pace, they would find themselves in next season's media guide and the single-season top ten lists: Short with 570 kills (1st), Benson with 186 blocks (1st), Benson with a .303 hitting efficiency (6th) and Juli Pierce with 377 digs (8th).
BIG TIMING IN THE BIG TEN
Caitlin Cox has picked up her game since the Big Ten season got underway. In six matches against conference foes, Cox is averaging 3.96 digs per set. That pace ranks as the sixth highest in conference matches only.
Taylor Wittmer is also playing well during the conference slate, hitting .280 with 56 kills.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Three different Hoosiers have record a double-double in 2008. Kelsey Hall leads the way with four, most recently, a 14-kill, 11-dig performance at Iowa. Erica Short isn't far behind, recording three double-doubles on the year. Hayley Koetter tallied 12 digs and 29 assists versus Purdue for her first double-double of the season.
