BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Over the next few weeks prior to the start of the 2008-09 IU Wrestling season, IUHoosiers.com will be introducing this year's recruiting class. In the first edition of "Meet The Hoosiers," say hello to Cooper Samuels.
Samuels is a very highly-touted recruit out of Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Ind. He owns many of Floyd Central's all-time school records, including most career wins and takedowns. His coach with the Highlanders was Rob Willman.
Samuels led the Highlanders to the 2005-06 Hoosier Hills Athletic Conference Championship and sectional championship. Individually, Samuels has an impressive resume. He is a two-time Indiana state champion and was an all-state honoree each of his four seasons. Samuels also nabbed four sectional, regional and semi-state titles en route to being named an Asics All-American.
Cooper's brother, Kyle Samuels, is a senior this year on the IU wrestling team. Both Samuels brothers are expected to wrestle in the 165-174 lbs. range. Cooper is the son of David and Penny Samuels and also has a sister, Melissa.
