BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing team will travel to Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 2 to compete in the Southland Regatta.
This weekend's regatta will feature the Hoosiers competing against Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wisconsin in 5,000 and 2,000-meter races at Faye's Point in Blue Island and Calumet Park, Ill.
"This weekend's race will give us a great gauge as to how our training is going for the year," said IU head coach Steve Peterson. "We are going into the regatta expecting some good performances, but until they actually race down the course head-to-head against good crews, everything is speculation. The Southland Regatta is a very good regatta, a great course, and has the toughest competition in the Midwest. Of the seven schools competing, five were ranked in the top 20 in the nation at the end of last season. Our results this weekend will definitely tell us if we are doing the right work and headed in the right direction."
The varsity launch will be at 11 a.m. ET, with the novice following at 11:30 a.m. The varsity head race will start at 11:45 and the novice will begin at 12:15 p.m. At 2 p.m., boats will launch for the 2,000-meter races.
Following this weekend's competition, the Hoosiers will conclude the fall season with the Fall Intra-Squad Class Race Classic at Lake Lemon on Saturday, Nov. 8.
