Zubkova Earns Second Silver European Short Course Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University junior Kate Zubkova added another silver medal to her haul with a second-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Rijeka, Croatia.
Zubkova finished in 26.65, second to Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic who set a new world record with a time of 26.23. Zubkova also finished second to Jovanovic in the 100 backstroke on Friday.
Her time of 27.18 was tops in the morning prelims, while she tied for third in the semifinals, coming home in 27.17.
Zubkova also swam the leadoff leg of the 200-meter medley relay for the Ukraine, finishing sixth with a time of 1:47.90. The team was fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:49.31.
The meet concludes Sunday as Zubkova will swim the 200-meter backstroke.
