BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team has continued to improve with each season and they have carried that improvement over to the classroom. In the fall semester, the Hoosiers raised their overall team GPA from a 3.247 to a 3.385, with seven team members posting a GPA of 3.7 or higher. There are also four members of the team that have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher for the careers at Indiana.
"This past fall was one of the best semesters we have had as a team since I have been here," Indiana rowing head coach Steve Peterson said. "We couldn't be more proud of the hard work and dedication the team put into the classroom and practice and we are looking forward to a successful spring season."
There have also been several individuals who have received recognition for their work in the classroom as well. Becca Shoemaker, Kelsey Kapral, Emily Kasavana and Molly Sinks are all members of the Honors College while Kasavana is also a member of the Mitte Business Honors program, a top 100 program in the country, and a Mitte Scholar.
Ashley Johnson was also named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete for posting a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher so far in her career. She is also an honor student and was named a Big Ten Scholar-Athlete last year.
A number of athletes received the Indiana University Faculty Academic Award Scholarship, including Madison Spruell, Johnson, Ellie Benson and Sinks who have all maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Indiana will begin the spring portion of its schedule on March 1 at home against Wisconsin at Lake Lemon, as the Hoosiers will have three home events during the month of March.
