SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana will head to the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, March 20-22 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
• Indiana is sending eight athletes to the meet:

Christie Fuchs: 200 Butterfly; 1,650 Freestyle

Donna Smailis: 200 Individual Medley; 100 Butterfly; 100 Freestyle; 400 Medley Relay; 200 Medley Relay
Amanda Smith: 500 Freestyle; 1,650 Freestyle

NEWS AND NOTES
• Kate Zubkova is seeded second in 100 backstroke (51.68), fifth in the 200 backstroke (1:53.62) and 11th in the 100 butterfly.
• Amanda Smith is seeded 13th in the 500 freestyle and 25th in the 1,650 freestyle.
• Donna Smailis is seeded 27th in the 200 IM, 30th in the 100 butterfly.
• Allison Kay is seeded 34th in the 400 IM.
• Sarah Stockwell is seeded 20th in the 100 breaststroke.
• Presley Bard is seeded 12th in the 100 backstroke.
• Christie Fuchs is seeded 25th in the 200 butterfly.
• The Indiana 400 Medley Relay team is seeded 12th; the 200 Medley Relay team is 11th.
• Indiana returns four athletes who earned All-America honors in 2007:

• Indiana has finished in the top 15 at each of the last four NCAA Championships:

• Overall the Hoosiers have eight top-15 finishes since 1980.
• Indiana is still looking for its first swimming NCAA champion. Since 1980 the Hoosiers have been presented with 169 swimming All-America certificates.
• The Hoosiers' only NCAA titles have come in diving: Cassandra Cardinell (2005), Kimiko Hirai (1996), Lona Foss (1982) and Amy McGrath (1980).
• Indiana has faced some of the top teams in the country this season. The Hoosiers faced No. 7 Tennessee, No. 11 Michigan, No. 20 Texas in dual meets this season.
2008 BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
• Indiana finished third at the 2008 Big Ten Championships with a total of 513 points.

Individual Honors
Big Ten Diver of the Year: Brittney Feldman

Big Ten Sportsmanship Nominee: Abby Cooper
• Kate Zubkova took home two Big Ten titles with wins in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. She also placed second in the 100 butterfly and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
• Brittney Feldman continued Indiana's strong diving tradition with wins in the 1-meter springboard (320.80) and 3-meter (349.55).
• Amanda Smith was second in the 500 freestyle (4:43.33) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.71) and 1,650 freestyle (16:22.66).
• Donna Smailis finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.00) after setting a new school record in the prelims (1:59.69). She also finished fifth in the 100 butterfly.
• Smailis was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (49.98).
• Brittany Epperson finished eighth (50.68).
• Presley Bard took second in the 100 backstroke (53.64) with a lifetime best.
• Sarah Stockwell bettered her own school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.59, finishing second.
• She was also fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.04).
• Christie Fuchs took eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:00.39).
• Zubkova, Stockwell, Smailis and Bard combined to win the 200-yard medley in 1:38.89, setting a new school and Big Ten meet record.
• Amanda Kay was seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:16.37).
• Smailis, Smith, Bard and Kay combined to take second in the 800 freestyle relay (7:13.39).
• Jade Summerlin took fifth in the platform diving final (267.50).
KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY
• For the second-straight year an Indiana diver took home both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving titles at the Big Ten Championship.
• This year it was Brittney Feldman who took home both titles.
• In 2007, Christina Loukas swept the diving events with wins in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
• An Indiana diver has won the 1-meter title each of the last four years (Loukas- 2005, 2006).
• IU has had at least one diving champion six of the last seven years.
• An Indiana diver has been named Big Ten Diver of the Year four-straight years (Loukas 2005-07, Feldman 2008) and six of the last eight years.
• The Hoosiers have had the Diver of the Championship each of the last four years (Loukas 2005-07, Feldman 2008).
• This would have been Loukas' senior season, but she is redshirting to prepare for the 2008 Olympics.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
• The Hoosiers were No. 22 in the final College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 rankings released February 29.
• The Big Ten had five teams in the top 25, led by No. 9 Minnesota. Also among the ranked are No. 11 Michigan, No. 12 Penn State and No. 21 Wisconsin.
• Northwestern sits just outside the top 25 in the "others receiving votes" category.
