BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On Saturday, March 29, Lake Lemon in Bloomington will be the site of the Indiana women's rowing team's final home regatta of the season. The Hoosiers will be racing against the University of Dayton and the Varsity Eight from Eastern Michigan University. The regatta will get underway at 10 a.m. with the Varsity Eight race.
The race schedule for Saturday is as follows:
10:00 a.m. - Varsity Eight
10:15 a.m. - 2nd Varsity Eight
10:30 a.m. - Varsity Four
10:45 a.m. - Novice Eight
11:00 a.m. - Novice Four
The Hoosiers will be competing at home for the second consecutive weekend after hosting Louisville last Saturday. The conditions on Lake Lemon were far from favorable and both teams had to battle not only each other but the elements as well. The Cardinals came out with wins in both the Varsity Eight races but Indiana came back with wins in both pieces of the Varsity Four race.
In the varsity races, Indiana head coach Steve Peterson was looking for the boats to improve upon their starts from the previous week and they were able to accomplish that. The focus this week in practice has shifted to making the boats faster through the entire race.
"Practice this week has been really hard but has been going really well," Peterson said. "We have done a fair amount of race pieces with the top two varsity crews, trying to assess what will make the crews the fastest on race day. We are trying some different lineup combinations for this weekend, but it still remains to be seen who the top eight rowers are on the team right now.
"I think this week showed the coaches, as well as the athletes that one of the strengths of the team right now is that we have a good deal of depth for the first eight. That not only should make the varsity eight fast, but the 2nd varsity eight as well. I know the athletes are looking forward to the race this weekend to put some of what we have learned this week into a race."
