OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Indiana women's rowing team will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Aramark South/Central Region Sprints on Melton Hill Lake. The Hoosiers will be joined by over 20 other schools at the event and will be looking to improve upon their 15th place finish at the regatta a season ago.
The event gets started at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning with the first preliminary heat for the Open Four. The Varsity Four preliminary heats begin at 9:50 a.m. and are followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 10:30 a.m. and the Varsity Eight at 11:10 a.m. The semifinals begin at 2:00 p.m. starting with the Open Four again and going in the same order. On Sunday, the finals start at 9:00 a.m. with the D Finals for the Second Varsity Eight crews and conclude at 11:40 a.m. with the Varsity Eight Grand Final.
Indiana has qualified the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and the Second Varsity Four, which will compete in the "Open Four" category. These same four crews are also competed at the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago, where they finished seventh.
The Hoosiers' best-ever finish at this event is ninth place, which they have accomplished on two separate occasions. The most recent came in 2004, when the Second Varsity Eight posted a ninth place finish to lead the four Indiana entries that all finished 12th or better. The best finish for an individual boat for the Hoosiers is a fifth place finish on May 14, 2000 by the Varsity Four.
