Hoosiers Complete First Day at Regional Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Indiana women's rowing team completed the preliminary and semifinal heats at the Aramark South/Central Region Springs on Melton Lake. The Hoosiers will have three boats in the C finals and one boat, the Open Four, in the B final on Sunday.
The Varsity Eight crew really did well on Saturday, but their seeding placed them in a difficult heat. Their time of 6:46.160 would have placed them in the AB semifinal, but because they finished fourth in their heat, they were sent to the CD semifinal. In that semifinal race, the Hoosiers posted a time of 6:53.600 to claim victory and advance to the C final on Sunday.
"We weren't seeded a well as we would have like to be," Indiana head coach Steve Peterson said afterwards, "but we were seeded where she should have been based up on the season's results. Had a great heat in the morning and then dominated in the afternoon, so it's too bad we didn't come in with a better seed."
The Second Varsity Eight put up a time of 7:07.240 in the preliminary heat and moved on to the CD semifinal in the afternoon. There, the Hoosiers crossed the line second, with a time of 7:11.350, just behind Kansas State
The Indiana Varsity Four finished fourth in its preliminary race with a time of 7:57.780, which advanced them on to the C final on Sunday.
And the fourth and final boat the Hoosiers sent to the regatta competed in the Open Four category. In their prelim race, Indiana finished fourth in their heat with a time of 8:10.250 to move on to the AB final later in the afternoon. In that race, IU was able to advance on to the B final on Sunday, finishing with a fourth-place time in the heat of 8:14.100.
Indiana will return to the lake on Sunday with a revised schedule due to forecasted weather in the area. Check the schedule below for the times the Hoosiers will race on Sunday.
