OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Indiana women's rowing season came to a close on Sunday at the 2008 Aramark Central/South Region Springs at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Hoosiers finished 14th out of 22 teams at the regatta, and eighth out of 12 in their region.
"We came into the regatta with a lower seed as a result of our performance during the season," head coach Steve Peterson said, "so we were forced to beat some tough crews if we were going to advance to the Petite final and we were just not able to do it. But overall, I thought we did a pretty good job."
The top finisher for the Hoosiers was the Open Four boat that came fifth in its Petite Final with a time of 8:19.400
The Varsity Eight came in second in the C final with a time of 6:52.700, which was good for 14th out of the 22 teams in the event.
"The Varsity Eight was seeded 15th and we finished 14th so we did improve," Peterson said. We were in a dogfight with Miami (Fla.) the entire race and just came up short at the end."
The Second Varsity Eight crossed the finish line in its C Final in a time of 7:12.480, good for 15th out of 21 overall boats. And the Varsity Four finished 15th out of 19 boats in its race, finishing third in the C Final with a final time of 8:07.800.
"We talked that we need to use this as a springboard for training over the summer and then coming back next year," Peterson said. `It was a fine way to end the season, but we would have hoped for more."
