BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) recently announced its All-Region teams and Indiana's Ellie Benson was named to the first team in the Central Region. Benson, a freshman, joins two-time All-American Laura Lazaridis as the only Indiana rowers to receive this award.
"We are extremely proud of Ellie and this accomplishment," Indiana head rowing coach Steve Peterson said. "It is a tremendous honor and reflects all the hard work she has put in this year."
The CRCA also released its annual list of scholar-athletes and the Hoosiers had three members of this team. Indiana is represented by juniors Monica Idstein and Madison Spruell and sophomore Emily Kasavana. For Spruell, this is the second year she has received this award from the CRCA.
Idstein is majoring in Exercise Science and Spanish, Spruell is a journalism major and Kasavana is majoring in Business.
With the addition of these three rowers to the list, the Hoosiers have had 17 rowers receive scholar-athlete accolades in the last five years under current head coach Steve Peterson.
