Weigle Advances to Finals at Diving Nationals

PASADENA, Calif. - Indiana University sophomore Landon Marzullo and recent graduate Taylor Roberts finished second and third, respectively, in the men's one-meter springboard competition at the 2008 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships being held at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, Calif.
After finishing sixth in the prelims with a score of 321.75, Marzullo came back in the finals to score 341.55 points and move up four spots for the silver medal finish. Terry Horner won the title with a score of 360.80.
Right on Marzullo's heels was former teammate Roberts who placed third with marks totaling 334.60 points. Roberts was also third in the prelims (336.60).
In addition to Marzullo and Roberts, incoming freshman Linus Altman-Kurosaki was 22nd in the prelims (262.00) and junior David Piercy was 27th (220.50).
The women's competition took place on the three-meter springboard, where former IU diver Lindsay Weigle advanced with a score of 280.10 in the semifinals, finishing third. She will join IU senior Christina Loukas in Saturday's final round as Loukas earned a bye into the finals by virtue of her spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Junior Brittney Feldman competed in the preliminary round, finishing 19th (214.80).
The meet, which runs through Sunday, features competition on the men's three-meter springboard and the women's one-meter springboard on Thursday.
