BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's rowing team is calling for all interested female IU students to try out for the novice rowing (walk-on) team for the 2008-09 school year. Call-out meetings will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday, Sept. 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Oak Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
If you cannot attend or you have questions, you may also contact assistant coach Josh Adam at joadam@indiana.edu.
Things to know:
Is experience necessary
No. Experience is not necessary. In fact, a large percentage of the team has no rowing experience prior to enrolling at IU. At the practices we will teach you all of the proper bio-mechanics and technique involved in our sport, as well as work with you to increase your strength and endurance to prepare you for the excitement of Big Ten Racing.
What is required?
We are looking for individuals with a willingness to learn, a desire to have fun, and the determination to push the limits of their personal, athletic potential.
What type of woman makes a good rower or coxswain?
Physiologically, we look for taller, athletic women to be rowers and smaller, quick-thinking leaders to be coxswains. (A coxswain is the person responsible for steering the boat.) Psychologically, we seek women of strong character, meaning you are self-confident, like to be challenged, and are eager to learn.
