ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Through the first 36 holes of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, the host Indiana Hoosiers (296-300) sit in a tie for fourth place with Illinois (298-298) with a score of 596, trailing Michigan's blistering pace of 580 (286-294) through two rounds. The tournament is being played at Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind.
While the team may have struggled with the windy conditions on Saturday, Indiana senior Jorge Campillo carded a pair of rounds of one-under par 70 to take a two shot lead on the individual side. Sitting in second place on the team side of things, just three strokes behind Michigan, is Louisville with a 583 (298-285) followed by Kentucky's 591 (298-293).
In round one, Campillo was one of six players tied for first after starting with an opening round one-under par 70. Indiana freshman David Erdy fired a 72 in round one to sit in a tie for eighth. Campillo birdied two of his first three holes and then bogeyed the eighth to finish the front nine at one under before paring each of his final nine holes to close at one under. Other scores for the Hoosiers in round one included Alex Martin's 76 to put him in a tie for 28th while Seth Brandon shot a 78 in his first 18 holes to put himself in a tie for 42nd. And rounding out the team scoring for the Hoosiers was Brandon Pike, who came in with a 79 on his first round of the day, tying him for 50th.
During round two, the wind continued to howl at Wolf Run and some of the scores showed it. However, Campillo remained steady as usual with his second round of 70 on the day. Alex Martin carded a 74 in his second round of the day, bettering his first round total by two strokes.
Freshman David Erdy came in with a score of 78 in round two while Seth Brandon fired his second round of 78 on the day in round two with Brandon Pike rounding out the second round scoring for the Hoosiers with a 78. Drew Allenspach, play as an individual in this tournament, improved upon his difficult first round by shooting a second round 79.
With rain in the forecast on Sunday, the format for tee times has been altered and the teams will start at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
