No. 13 Indiana Closes Out Home Schedule with Purdue Saturday

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana closes out its home schedule for the regular season as it plays host to in-state rival Purdue on Saturday at noon.
• The Hoosiers are 3-0 against Big Ten foes in dual meets this season with wins over No. 20 Northwestern, No. 22 Michigan and Ohio State. Indiana also topped Michigan in a quad meet earlier this month.
• Bragging rights are on the line in this meet as one point will be awarded to the winner in the Crimson and Gold Cup Competition.
• The event order for Saturday's meet is as follows:

NEWS AND NOTES
• Indiana won 10 events last weekend en route to dual meet wins over Missouri and Ohio State at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
• The Hoosiers took the 200 medley relay, 1,650 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1-meter springboard, , 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 3-meter springboard.
• IU improved to 5-1 in dual meets this season. Its only loss came at the hands of No. 3 Texas, 211-178 in November.
• Kate Zubkova (100 back, 200 back), Donna Smailis (100 fly, 100 free) and Christina Loukas (1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard) were all double winners for Indiana.
• Zubkova is undefeated in both backstroke events this season. She is the reigning Big Ten champion and Big Ten record holder in each event.
• Indiana finished in a quad meet with No. 10 Tennessee, No. 22 Michigan and Illinois, Jan. 9-10. The Hoosiers finished with 1,294.5 points, more than 500 points ahead of third-place Michigan. Tennessee placed first.
• Kate Zubkova remained undefeated in the backstroke events with wins in both the 100 and 200 back.
• Amanda Smith won the 500 free, while Allison Kay took home the 400 IM title. Sarah Stockwell was victorious in the 200 breaststroke.
• Brittany Barwegen continues to show she will be a force to reckon with in the 200 fly with a win.
• It was a solid showing for the IU swimmers despite the fact they were coming off a grueling training trip and had not rested for the meet.
• Christina Loukas was a double winner on both the one-meter and three-meter springboards.
• Amy Korthauer made it an IU sweep of the diving events with a win on the platform.
EARLIER THIS YEAR...
• At the Hoosierland Invite in November, freshman Nikki White made a national splash with an A cut time of 4:36.61 in the 500 freestyle. In addition to being a school record, it is currently the ninth-fastest time ever by an American.
• Not finished yet, White set a school record in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.28 and also added IU's 1,650-yard freestyle record to her list with a time of 16:07.39.
• Senior Sarah Stockwell bettered the school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.54, while teammate Abby Cooper recorded a new record in the 200 breast (2:13.98).
• Not to be outdone, Brittany Barwegen put up a new record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.22 to finish first and better her NCAA B cut.
• In all a total of six school record and 20 NCAA B cuts were achieved at the early-season meet.
• Several swimmers also competed at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in December, led by White's fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
• White also took eighth in the B final of the 200 free and fifth in the 1,650 free.
• Sophomore Amanda Smith was second in the 1,650 freestyle with an NCAA B time of 16:11.33, and placed sixth in the 200 fly (1:58.16-NCAA B).
• Donna Smailis was second in the B final of the 100 butterfly (54.24), while Brittany Barwegen was fifth (54.89). Barwegen also took eighth in the 200 fly (1:58.55).
• In a victory over Northwestern on Oct. 24, Indiana won 10 events, led by Zubkova who took home wins in the 100 back, 200 back, 100 butterfly and 400 medley relay.
• Junior Brittney Feldman was a double winner in diving, taking the one-meter and three-meter springboard titles.
• Indiana opened the year in dominating fashion by winning all but one event against Kentucky on Oct. 18.
• Sophomore Christina Kouklakis won her first-ever collegiate event, taking first in the three-meter springboard against the Wildcats.
FROM LAST SEASON...
• The Hoosiers look to carry the momentum of last year's 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
• IU totaled 128 points, the second-most points scored at the NCAA meet in school history, just off the record of 136 in 2002.
• Indiana returns six All-Americans in junior Brittney Feldman, senior Christina Loukas, junior Donna Smailis, sophomore Amanda Smith, senior Sarah Stockwell and junior Kate Zubkova.
• The Hoosiers also have seven All-Big Ten selections back in the fold in Feldman, Kay, Loukas, Smailis, Smith, Stockwell and Zubkova.
• Last season new school records were set in the:

• On the diving side, Indiana returns the Big Ten champion in the one-meter and three-meter springboard in junior Brittney Feldman.
• Also back on the boards for IU this season is senior Christina Loukas. An eight-time All-American for IU, Loukas redshirted the 2007-08 season to focus on the Olympics.
LOUKAS IS BIG TEN DIVER OF THE WEEK...AGAIN
• For the fourth time this season and the 10th time in her career senior diver Christina Loukas is the Big Ten Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
• Adding to her mark as the all-time leader in weekly diving accolades, Loukas swept the one-meter and three-meter competition last weekend as the Hoosiers posted dual meet victories over Ohio State and Missouri. Loukas totalled 317.75 points on the one-meter springboard to lead a 1-2-3 Indiana sweep of the event. On the three-meter board she tallied 323.45 points to win the title by more than 11 points.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS
• Indiana is ranked No. 13 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America Dual Meet Rankings, released Jan. 16.
• Indiana was No. 8 in the preseason poll, ninth in the poll released on Oct. 31, 10th in the Nov. 14 poll and 11th in the Dec. 12 poll.
• Minnesota leads the Big Ten at No. 9, followed by the Hoosiers, No. 15 Penn State, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 20 Northwestern, and No. 22 Michigan.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Junior Kate Zubkova has never lost a 100 or 200 backstroke race in Big Ten dual meet competition.
