BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team had two crews compete in the annual Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Sunday, Oct. 25, on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.
"There were 55 crews in the eight race and I was happy with the results," said IU head coach Steve Peterson. "We haven't spent a lot of time in the eight, so several of our goals from practicing in the small boats were carried over to the eight. In the beginning, we started up near the faster crews, and where we finished, we were right in the thick of it. It was a good grouping of people to be at the same speed with, and that was one of our big goals. We did a great job. They raced well and were aggressive. Being the first real race, it's easy to learn from it. It was a very good race."
The Hoosiers' Varsity Eight crew placed 15th overall after crossing the finish line in 15:58.802, edging Cornell, who placed 16th with a time of 15:59.220 and Virginia (17th, 16:00.057).
IU's Varsity Four crew crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 17:53.370, defeating Princeton (10th, 17:55.897) and Rutgers (11th, 17:59.203).
"We had great results in the four race," Peterson added. "Our goal was to definitely be in the top 10. I think they did a good job. We were really looking for people to be competitive on race day, and we definitely were so I'm happy with the results."
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 1 with a scrimmage against Notre Dame and Iowa in South Bend.
