Spartans Down the Wildcats 1-0 in Round One Action

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State downed Northwestern to advance to second round action at the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans picked up a goal in the second half and got solid play in goal from Avery Steinlage to defeat the Wildcats. MSU moves to 11-6-2 on the year, while Northwestern falls to 10-4-4.
In the 52nd minute, Tim Granaderos of Michigan State broke the scoreless tie with a shot to the lower left net on a Stephen Lucianke pass. The goal is the second of the season for Granaderos.
With 30:23 left in the game, referee Pawel Wydra was injured and replaced by Miguel Panduro Jr. in the middle, and Cien Asoera took over as assistant referee.
