PHOENIX, Ariz. - Junior Laura Nochta shot a team-low 71, and Kellye Belcher won all three points in her match but it was not enough as Wisconsin posted a 10-8 win over Indiana in match play at the Westbrook Village Vistas Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
The teams followed a nassau format, which consisted of head-to-head matchups of six players from each team. Three points total was awarded in each individual matchup, with a point each for low score on the front nine, back nine and overall.
Nochta shot a 71 and picked up two points playing against the Badgers' Carly Werwie. Belcher faced off against Isabel Alvarez and came away with all three points with a round of 73.
Senior Amber Lindgren also recorded two points for the Hoosiers, shooting a 76 against UW's Molly Schemm. Junior Anita Gahir came away with half a point with a 77 over 18 holes, competing against Jessie Gerry. Sophomore Cecilia Orevik came home with a 78 and a half a point after squaring off against Kelsey Verbeten. Competing in her first collegiate event, freshman Emily Habbel shot an 88 against Wisconsin's Jeana Dahl.
"I am really pleased with the quality of play I saw today," said head coach Clint Wallman. "They made good decisions which resulted in good shots. I think this warm-up really got us ready for Puerto Rico. I am optimistic as we head into next week's tournament."
Tournament play resumes Feb. 8-10 as the Hoosiers will test their abilities against some of the top teams in the nation at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Some of the teams competing in the 54-hole tournament include No. 8 Georgia, No. 15 Purdue, No. 21 Kent State, No. 34 New Mexico, No. 37 TCU, No. 38 N.C. State, No. 45 Michigan and No. 48 Tennessee.
