BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IU Rowing team recorded a successful scrimmage at No. 13 Clemson, as the Hoosiers competed against the host Tigers, Purdue and Marist on Saturday, March 21 in Clemson, S.C.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Hoosiers' novice crew, which swept all of their races.
"I think the team as a whole had a great week of practice and we all learned a lot from the weekend scrimmage," said IU novice coach Josh Adam. "It will be good to take the momentum from this spring break forward into the regular season."
IU's Varsity-8 recorded a quality afternoon, competing in six pieces and winning one against the fast field. IU head coach Steve Peterson was pleased with the strides the Hoosiers' have made throughout their preseason workouts.
"We learned a lot from the scrimmage," Peterson said. "Just like preseason competitions in any other sport, yes we want to win, but more importantly we want to learn about our team's strengths and weaknesses as we head into the official racing season (which starts next Saturday). Which is what we got out of the workout. So from that end, it was a very successful workout."
The Hoosiers officially open their season on Saturday, March 28 when their host Buffalo and Eastern Michigan on Lake Lemon. Saturday's event will be the first of two in Bloomington, as Indiana will host the Dale England Cup on April 3-4.
