TUCSON, Ariz. - The Indiana women's golf team shot rounds of 297 and 298 to put itself in sixth place after day one of the Mountain View Collegiate being held at the Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
Indiana (595) is 24 shots off the lead with San Jose State first (571), followed by UNLV (578), Louisville (587), Colorado State (591) and Nebraska (592).
The Hoosiers were one of four teams tied for fifth after round one with a 297. The tournament concludes with a single round of 18 holes on Sunday.
Junior Laura Nochta is currently tied for seventh after posting rounds of 72 (E) and 71 (-1) for a two-round total of 143. Junior Anita Gahir joins her in the top 12 as Gahir is tied for 11th after posting rounds of 71 (-1) and 74 (+2) for a 145. Gahir's 71 was just her second under-par round this season as she posted a career-best 67 in the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in October.
Junior Kellye Belcher is currently tied for 44th with a score of 152. Belcher shot a 75 (+3) in the opening round and finished with a 77 (+5). Senior Amber Lindgren is tied for 65th entering the final day. She began with a 79 (+7) but came back to shave two strokes off that total with a 77 (+5) over the final 18. Rounding out the IU contingent is sophomore Cecilia Orevik. Orevik struggled through her first round with a 10-over 82. A much better second half to the day saw her post a 78 (+6) for a 158.
