INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing team wrapped up competition this weekend in the State of Indiana Regatta against No. 20 Notre Dame and Purdue at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis.
With poor conditions in the forecast, the day's races were moved up and limited to 1,500-meters due to the low water levels of Eagle Creek. Wind gusts of up to 15-20 miles per hour made for long races, as well as choppy challenging conditions to race in.
The Hoosiers started the day off well as the Second Novice 8 took first place over both Notre Dame and Purdue in 6:30.4. However, the 20th ranked Irish swept the remaining races, including the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8. Both of IU's Novice 8 and Second Varsity 8 crews raced closely with Notre Dame, but couldn't pull ahead at the finish line with times of 6:22.7 and 5:53.5, respectively.
IU's Varsity 8 recorded a time of 5:49.3 to finish third in the first of five pieces and the Varsity 4 crew finished in fourth with a time of 7:10.6.
Indiana returns to action on April 3-4 when they host Penn, Louisville and Michigan State in the Dale England Cup at Lake Lemon.
