Pre-Seeds Announced for Big Ten Championships

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference released the pre-seeds for this weekend's Championships on Monday, and eight Hoosiers earned a spot in the top eight.
Defending Big Ten (and national) champion Angel Escobedo was given the No. 3 pre-seed in the 125-pound division. Kurt Kinser is also a No. 3 pre-seed after posting a 5-3 record during the Big Ten season at 157 pounds. Heavyweight Nate Everhart compiled six victories in the conference, garnering him a No. 5 pre-seed.
Additional Hoosiers grabbing pre-seeds include: Matt Powless (No. 6, 197 lbs.), Trevor Perry (No. 6, 174 lbs.), Nick Walpole (No. 7, 149 lbs.), Paul Young (No. 7, 165 lbs.) and Andrae Hernandez (No. 8, 141 lbs.).

A pre-championship Coaches' Meeting will occur Friday (Mar. 6) afternoon and one of the items on the agenda is the finalization of the seeds for each weight class. IUHoosiers.com will have the official brackets posted shortly after they are created on Friday.
The 2009 Big Ten Wrestling Championships are being hosted by Penn State inside the Bryce Jordan Center. The first of three sessions begins on Saturday (Mar. 7) at 11 a.m. EST.
