ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 18 Indiana Hoosiers (7-6, 2-0 CWPA West) captured their second straight convincing CWPA Western Division victory by beating Chatham, 15-2. The win also extends the team’s current win streak to six overall.
“I thought we did a good job of executing what we wanted throughout the game,” Indiana head coach Barry King said. “It’s always important to pick up conference wins.”
The meeting marked Chatham’s first varsity game in school history, and the Hoosiers welcomed them to the conference with a dominating performance. Indiana scored seven goals in the opening quarter, and limited Chatham with their defensive presence throughout the game.
Sophomore Amy Moore scored after a give and go with freshman Hanna Eimstad to get the Hoosiers on the board. Sophomore Lauren Wyckoff then went on a three goal tear in a three minute span to give Indiana a 4-0 lead with under four minutes left in the first period.
Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Indiana controlled the Chatham offense, rarely allowing them scoring opportunities until late in the contest. Freshman Jakie Köhli led the Hoosiers in steals with two.
Indiana scored again in the first quarter when freshman goalie Cassie Wyckoff hit junior Nicole Sands with an outlet pass that Sands turned into a goal. Freshman Kristin Harmidy then scored from the middle after an entry from sophomore Kate Dunn. Harmidy led the Hoosiers in the game with a career-high four goals. Freshman Sara Joseph capped off the first quarter scoring attack when she scored with 19 seconds remaining to give Indiana a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Hoosiers would go on to score two goals in both the second and third quarters to further separate themselves from Chatham. The final period featured four Indiana scores to give them a 15-0 lead, until Chatham scored their first pair of varsity goals to end the game, 15-2.
Freshmen Lisa Andrews and Dana Mayeron both recorded their first collegiate goals. Andrews scored in the second period during a six on five chance, while Mayeron got on the board mid-way through the fourth quarter.
Wyckoff got the start at goalkeeper, and recorded four saves and one assist in the first half. Junior Katie Carson played in the second half, and ended the game with four saves as well.
The Hoosiers will be in the pool again Saturday evening against Grove City at 6:00 p.m. ET.
