IU Rowing Heads to Aramark NCAA South/Central Region Sprints

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing team will compete in the Aramark NCAA South/Central Region Sprints on Saturday, May 16-Sunday, May 17, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Melton Lake. The Hoosiers will compete in a series of 2,000-meter pieces.
This weekend's regatta will include crews from Alabama, Cincinnati, Clemson, Central Florida, Duke, Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Murray State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. Nine of the Varsity 8 crews the Hoosiers will go up against are ranked among the top 20 in this week's Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll, including No. 3 Michigan State.
So far this season, Indiana crews have posted wins over Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Minnesota, Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Racing begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET with preliminary heats. Saturday's afternoon session will begin at 2 p.m. with semifinals, while Sunday's finals are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
Their last time out, the Hoosiers finished seventh at the Big Ten Championships on May 2, scoring 24 points in the event. IU's Second Novice 8 crew reached its Grand Final after placing second in its heat with a time of 6:53.039, defeating Iowa (3rd, 6:57.091). The Hoosiers placed fourth in their Grand Final with a time of 6:51.941, behind Wisconsin (1st, 6:36.547), Michigan (2nd, 6:36.645) and Michigan State (3rd, 6:47.921).
In the First Novice 8 Petite Final, IU placed third with a time of 6:46.740, behind Minnesota (1st, 6:36.950) and Iowa (2nd, 6:38.404). The Hoosiers placed third as their First Varsity 4 crew crossed the finish line in 7:40.813, behind Michigan State (1st, 7:08.081) and Iowa (2nd, 7:17.901). IU's Second Varsity 8 crew finished in 6:42.766 for third, just behind Iowa (1st, 6:34.492) and Minnesota (2nd, 6:38.160). In its final race of the day, Indiana's First Varsity 8 crew also placed third in 6:37.678, following Iowa (1st, 6:18.872) and Minnesota (2nd, 6:19.726).
