OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Indiana rowing team wrapped up competition Sunday at the Aramark NCAA South/Central Region Sprints on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Hoosiers finished eighth in the Central Region with 121 points, ahead of Kansas (118), Kansas State (114), SMU (48), Eastern Michigan (18) and Oklahoma (0). Michigan won the region with 348 points. Overall Indiana finished 14th out of 22 teams, ahead of Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Alabama, SMU, Eastern Michigan, Duke and Oklahoma.
Indiana's Varsity 4 crew placed fifth in the Petite Final, crossing the line in 7:26.1, more than a second ahead of Louisville. Wisconsin won the race in 7:00.9, followed by Michigan State (7:01.6), UCF (7:11.7) and Iowa (7:26.1).
The Second Varsity 8 crew took second in the C Final with a time of 6:32.4, defeating Kansas (6:40.0), Miami (6:45.9), Alabama (6:48.3) and Kansas State (6:53.3). The Hoosiers were just a little over a second behind winner UCF (6:31.1).
The Open 4 team placed third in the C Final with a time of 7:17.73, defeating Notre Dame (7;18.13), Iowa (7:20.73) and UCF (7:30.23). Duke won the race in 7:09.53, followed by Kansas (7:14.63).
The Hoosiers placed third in the Novice 8 C Final, coming home in 6:49.0, ahead of Oklahoma (7:03.0). Kansas State was first (6:42.3), with Kansas second (6:48.8).
Indiana's Varsity 8 crew finished fourth in the C Final with a time of 6:28.09, defeating SMU (6:35.83) and Miami (6:37.25). Tennessee won the race in 6:18.7, followed by Texas (6:26.54) and Kansas (6:27.87).
