ATHENS, Ohio - The Indiana field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season with a 1-0 defeat at Ohio on Friday, Sept. 4.
The Bobcats (1-2) came out aggressive early in the first half with a corner and three shots just 6:15 into the game. Ohio continued to force its offense until Indiana (2-1) got four consecutive shots from redshirt sophomore Brenna Moeljadi, and seniors Alina Valenti and Meg O'Connell with 28:30 on the clock. However, the Bobcats got on the board at the 31:17 mark as Katherine Ballard took a shot from five yards out on the right side of the field to put the home team up, 1-0. The Hoosiers picked up their offense, but it wasn't enough as they suffered the one goal loss.
Redshirt freshman Morgan Fleetwood led the Hoosiers with six shots, four of which were on goal. Junior Mutsa Mutembwa took four shots with two on goal, Valenti and Moeljadi each took three shots with two on goal, and O'Connell had three shots with one on goal. Junior Alex Mann tallied three saves in 70 minutes in goal.
The Hoosiers outshot the Bobcats, 21-8.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Louisville for a 1 p.m. ET start time.
