BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the first time in her career, sophomore Margaux Farrell is the Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Farrell posted season bests in each of her four events over the weekend while picking up a pair of individual victories as the Hoosiers defeated rival Purdue, 166.5-133.5 on Saturday at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Farrell began the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, posting a season best and NCAA provisional mark of 1:48.14. The Woodbridge, Conn. native also captured the 100 freestyle title with a season best time of 50.48. To complete the day, she added two runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.34) and 400 freestyle relay, in which she aided the Hoosier quartet to an NCAA B cut time of 3:24.43.
Indiana, ranked No. 14 in the latest Collegeswimming.com dual meet poll, is back in action on Friday as it closes out the regular season portion of its schedule with a dual meet at No. 13 Louisville. The Hoosiers are the reigning Big Ten champions and will look to defend that title at the 2010 conference meet, Feb. 17-20 in West Lafayette, Ind.
