BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three different Hoosiers climbed up the national rankings following an impressive week at the Southern Scuffle and a 29-9 road win over West Virginia. As a team, the Hoosiers remained steady at No. 13 in the country.
The largest jump came from Kurt Kinser in the 157-pound national rankings as he vaulted from No. 12 up to to No. 6. Kinser advanced to the finals of the Southern Scuffle before falling in the fourth tiebreaker period. He then followed that up with a dominating performance in Morgantown, W.Va.
Though Kinser moved up the most slots, Angel Escobedo's ascent may have been the most significant this week. The 2008 national champion reclaimed the top spot in the 125-pound weight class and is now in the driver's seat for the number one seed at nationals.
Heavyweight Nate Everhart isn't far behind Escobedo, coming in at No. 3 this week. Everhart has produced two tournament titles and an unblemished 22-0 record thus far during the 2009-10 season.
