BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team will compete in the 2010 Princeton Chase on Sunday, Oct. 31, on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.
The 3-mile head-race is hosted by Princeton University and slated to get underway at 10 a.m. ET.
"We are very excited for the Princeton Chase," said head coach Steve Peterson. "Obviously the athletes are always excited to race but practices have been going well, and this is always a great trip where we will face off against many of the top programs on the east coast. Although the fall races are essentially pre-season races, they do give us a good understanding of how our training is going thus far."
The Hoosiers' last race resulted in IU's top Varsity 8 crew tying Louisville with a time of 17:04 in the Lemonhead Regatta in Bloomington on Lake Lemon on Saturday, Sept. 18.
"To prepare for the race, the athletes have really been logging in a lot of miles on the water, on the ergs and even on the road (running)," said Peterson. "Although a training program like this tends to take longer for improvements to show - we expect to see the real benefits of these workouts more in our spring races - we have already seen some good results this year, as evidenced by the results against Louisville several weeks ago."
"The Princeton Chase is a great race with great competition," Peterson added. "We have high expectations and big goals for this year and this weekend will be the first step toward achieving them."
