Women's Swimming and Diving Posts Win over Penn State

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Indiana women's swimming and diving team picked up its second Big Ten victory of the season, topping Penn State in a dual meet with the Nittany Lions and Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
Indiana finished with a 195-158 win over Penn State but came up short against the host Cavaliers, 207-144.
In the 200 medley relay, sophomore Taylor Wohrley, freshman Bronwyn Pasloski, senior Brittany Barwegen and junior Margaux Farrell took fifth with a time of 1:44.71.
Freshman Lindsay Vrooman clocked a season-best time of 10:03.19 to finish fourth in the 1,000 freestyle. She was followed by juniors Nikki White (5th-10:04.83) and Brittany Strumbel (6th-10:07.03).
Freshman Sara Delay's season-best time of 23.59 in the 50 freestyle gave her a sixth-place finish, while freshman Stephanie Armstrong took eighth (23.81-season best) and Farrell ninth (23.90-season best).
Wohrley was just off her season best in the 100 backstroke but still took the victory with a time of 55.77. Junior Kim Tracey touched the wall seventh (57.08).
Junior Allysa Vavra's third win in as many individual events came in the 200 breaststroke where she recorded a season-best mark of 2:16.46. Pasloski took fourth (2:19.40) and freshman Brittney Phelan sixth (2:20.43-season best).
Barwegen was the top IU finisher and third overall in the 100 butterfly, coming home in 55.57. Brenna MacLean took eighth as her time of 56.94 was a season best.
Farrell went under 1:50 for the first time this season in the 200 freestyle, taking third with a time of 1:49.79. Strumbel was sixth (1:51.21), and junior Courey Schaefer seventh (1:51.96).
Vavra capped off an undefeated weekend with a time of 4:16.50 in the 400 individual medley, her second NCAA B cut in the event this season. Barwegen was fifth (4:23.56) and senior Ashley Jones was seventh (4:23.91).
The day ended with the 400 freestyle relay as Delay, Farrell, Strumbel and Armstrong took fourth in 3:25.44.
