Elite Competition Awaits IU at Las Vegas Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Wrestling will compete in the 29th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend (Dec. 3-4), held inside the Las Vegas Convention Center. This event is expected to be one of, if not, the best regular season wrestling tournament in the country all season long.
It is a double-elimination, NCAA Championship format competition that features 12 of the current top-25 teams in the most recent NWCA/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll (#1 Cornell; #4 Wisconsin; #6 Boise State; #8 Oklahoma; #9 Illinois; #10 Virginia Tech; #11 Central Michigan; #13 Oregon State; #19 Ohio State; #21 Michigan; #22 Arizona State; #23 Purdue). Also, three more teams, Cal Poly, Hofstra and Indiana, are receiving top-25 votes. The CKLV begins at 9 a.m. (PST) on Friday and runs all day with the quarterfinals scheduled for 7 p.m. Competition continues Saturday at 9 a.m. with semifinals at 10 a.m. and finals at 3 p.m.
The complete 36-team field consists of: Air Force, Arizona State, Boise State, Brown, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Central Michigan, Columbia, Cornell, Dicksinson State, Drexel, Duke, Grand Canyon, Harvard, Hofstra, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Navy, North Carolina State, North Dakota State, North Idaho, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Purdue, San Francisco State, SIU-Edwardsville, UNC Greensboro, Utah Valley, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Western Wyoming and Wisconsin.
Each school is allowed one wrestler at each weight class. Competing for IU will be:

141 lbs.- Mitchell Richey (8-5)
149 lbs.- #13 Kurt Kinser (6-2)
157 lbs.- #6 Paul Young (9-1)
165 lbs.- Ryan Konz (9-6)
174 lbs.- Nick Avery (5-4)
184 lbs.- Eric Cameron (5-6)
197 lbs.- #18 Matt Powless (10-0)
285 lbs.- #17 Ricky Alcala (10-1)
Four Hoosiers placed at the 28th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, including Angel Escobedo and Nate Everhart; and their individual championships in the 125 lbs. and 285 lbs. weight classes, respectively. Escobedo was named the tournament's "Most Outstanding Wrestler." As a team, the Hoosiers finished in sixth place out 44 schools competing in the event. Twelve of the nation's top-25 teams were in the field.
