BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana will be one of 32 schools competing for the 2010 Southern Scuffle title on Dec. 29-30. Forty-one percent of the NCAA's Division-I wrestling programs will travel to the Greensboro Coliseum's Special Events Center for one of the largest in-season events in the country.
Head Coach Duane Goldman is expected to bring 16 Hoosiers to Greensboro. The team score will be determined by each school's top wrestler in each of the 10 weight classes. Below is the probable line-up for IU:
125 lbs.- Justin Brooks
133 lbs.- Matt Ortega
141 lbs.- Mitchell Richey, Geno Capezio
149 lbs.- Kurt Kinser, Alex Warren
157 lbs.- Paul Young
165 lbs.- Ryan LeBlanc, Ryan Konz, Ross Powell, Anthony Fretwell
174 lbs.- Nick Avery
184 lbs.- Eric Cameron
197 lbs.- Matt Powless, Tanner Kriss
285 lbs.- Ricky Alcala
The visitors represent all four time zones and 14 of the contiguous 48 United States. They're as close as UNC Chapel Hill (50 miles) and as distant as Oregon State (2,404.) Collectively, they'll travel 15,978 miles one way to get here. That's nearly two-thirds of the way around the Earth and enough to drive the length of Interstate 40 from Wilmington, N.C., to Barstow, Calif., six times.
The field is predictably strong. It includes:

• Six of the nation's Top 25 teams, led by No. 1 Cornell
• At least 74 of the 200 individuals rated in their weight classes by Amateur Wrestling News

• The top-ranked wrestler in four of the 10 classes: Kellen Russell of Michigan (141); Kyle Dake (149) and Mack Lewnes (174) of Cornell; and Kent State's Dustin Kilgore, the top guy at 197.
