BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball took a look back and celebrated their 2009 season this past Saturday night (Feb. 6) at the annual end of season team banquet. Friends and family of the team, coaches and support staff gathered in the Hoosier room for a night full memories from the fall.
The event, MC'ed by Assistant Athletic Director Jeremy Gray, began with a meet-and-great session, and was followed by: dinner, the "The Top-10 Things to Remember From the 2009 IU Volleyball Season," presented by Sports Information's Kyle Kuhlman, a season highlight video and a season summary and comments from Head Coach Sherry Dunbar.
Next up was the awards ceremony. First-year players Whitney Granado, Jordan Haverly, Shawn Hindman, Kelci Marschall, Laura Matula, Samantha Thrower and Jessica Weeg were all given varsity jackets as a reward for their first varsity letters earned. Additional gifts were presented for the sophomores and juniors before concluding with speeches by Indiana's two seniors, Kelsey Hall and Whitney Thomas.
The night concluded with the presentation of two final individual awards. Taylor Wittmer was the 2009 Inspirational Award winner, voted on by her teammates. That award is given strictly by the players and is someone that throughout the season inspired others to give their best through their actions both on and off the court.
Meanwhile, Kelci Marschall was the staff's choice for the Coaches Award, given to the person who exemplifies exactly what it means to be a true student-athlete.
