BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team will travel north to Eagle Creek Lake in Indianapolis to race in the Indiana Invitational on Sunday, March 28.
The Hoosiers will race Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Notre Dame and Purdue in a series of 2,000-meter pieces, beginning with the first Varsity 8 race at 9:30 a.m. ET.
"We're heading into Sunday's race wanting to build on last week," said Indiana head coach Steve Peterson. "We had some great races and now we want to focus a little more on the technical aspects and refine our starting sequence. With the limited water time that we've had, we want to use these earlier races to help develop techniques a little bit more. The goal is to win, but we want to work on our execution and just build upon what we did last week at Clemson."
Last weekend at the Clemson Sprints, IU's first Varsity 8 crew, made up of sophomore coxswain Alex Burkle, sophomores Shifumi Terasaka, Cara Donley and Andrea Wensits, juniors Ellie Benson and Rachel Anderson, and seniors Katie Liston, Katie Feckler and Emily Kasavana came in just five and a half seconds behind No. 12 Clemson (6:44.15) in the first Varsity 8 race with a time of 6:49.66, while defeating Purdue (third, 6:53.83), Alabama (fourth, 7:07.62) and Marist (fifth, 7:27.27).
Following Sunday's regatta in Indianapolis, the Hoosiers will host the second annual Dale England Cup, April 2-3, on Lake Lemon in Bloomington. This year's Dale England features IU racing crews from Boston University, Central Florida, Dayton and Miami (Fla.). Saturday's races will be on a tape-delay broadcast by the Big Ten Network on Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m. ET.
