Big Ten Champions Honored at Men's Basketball Game

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Indiana women's swimming and diving team was honored Saturday for its 2010 Big Ten Championship. It is the second year in a row and the third time in the last four years the Hoosiers have claimed the conference crown.
Indiana finished the championships with seven individual titles and two relay titles. Senior Donna Smailis won the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and was part of the winning 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Senior Kate Fesenko was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Year for the second year in a row, winning the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, setting new conference records in the process. She was also part of the 800 free relay team.
Sophomore Margaux Farrell won her first individual conference title, taking the 200 freestyle. She also swam on the 400 free relay team. Sophomore Allysa Vavra competed at her first conference championship and came away with a victory in the 400 individual medley.
Sophomore Gabby Agostino kept Indiana's win streak alive in diving events with a victory in the platform competition. Freshman Taylor Wohrley was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year thanks to a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke and a third-place showing in the 100 backstroke. She also swam on the 400 freestyle relay.
A total of 10 Hoosiers qualified for the swimming portion of NCAA Championships, taking place March 18-20 at Purdue. The diving representatives will be determined at the NCAA Zone Meet, March 13-15, also in West Lafayette.
